Can you approximate an area light by adding more than one point lights?
Similar to Farhan's question, but does you we had an area light that was 5x5, is that equivalent to 25 point lights? The average of 25 point lights?
Though approximating an area light by multiple point lights can have a similar result, the produced shadows are still layered instead of continuous.
So how can we implement area light?
What the shadows look like are independent of what type of light right? As in how much they are blended
Here is a survey of soft shadows: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1467-8659.2003.00722.x
