degree of freedom? guessing here since setting 2nd derivative to zero is to make things under constraints (e.g. acceleration zero at end points)
What would happen if curvature did not agree at endpoints (no C2 continuity)? It seems that the curve would still look continuous and fairly natural.
C2 continuity ensures the center of the curvatures is the same.
