Couldn't we actually calculate these probabilities by precomputing surface area for all primitives in a scene?

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but what is S_N?

S_N = S_A + S_B, right?

If we know the assumptions don't apply in our scene, is there a better heuristic to use?
