Translation is considered affine, but the definition of affine uses translation. I looked more into affine and it says that it is the preservation of points, which seems very similar to translation. Can translation and affine be considered analogous then?

A translation is an affine transformation, but affine transformations include a broader set of transformation than just translation. A transformation is an affine transformation if it can be made of some nomination of translation and linear transformation (i.e. scaling, reflection, rotation...)
