In lecture, Kayvon mentioned how phone's leverage their case to dissipate heat since they're unable to fit a fan. A somewhat recent (and pretty cool) technique that phones are using is actually leveraging liquid cooling. In a desktop PC, your liquid loop would transfer heat to a radiator where it gets cooled by fans. Naturally, this isn't possible in a phone. So, the primary usage of a liquid is as a material inside heat pipes. The heat from a CPU results in the liquid evaporating. It then travels to the other end of the heat pipe where it condenses, i.e. transferring the heat. Rinse and repeat.

Another technique to cool down mobile phone is by using thermal diffusion sheets, the primary component of which is carbon: https://news.panasonic.com/global/stories/2012/9385.html
