Prof. Kayvon mentioned Keenan Crane’s favorite shape is a platonic noid. Prof. Crane (slide creds) is at CMU and does research in the relatively new field of Discrete Differential Geometry. He wrote an overview on DDG. It's fairly accessible (especially the first half!), and I found it to be an interesting read.
