I know in lecture it was mentioned that the cube would be flipped horizontally and vertically when projected onto the plane. I was wondering why that would be the case mathematically. Why does projecting 3d coordinates onto a 2d plane cause the projection to be flipped horizontally + vertically?

To try to answer why the image is flipped, I think it is because we are assuming a pinhole model of the camera. Slide 33 and 34 showed the image of this model. As shown, the light beam reflected from the top of the tree will go through the hole and land on the bottom of the screen. Similarly, light coming from the left side of the tree will land on the right side of the screen.
