When would you want to use quad meshes over triangle meshes?

I think sometimes you can't avoid it -- e.g. in the case of irregular vertices, it seems like you'll often end up with quads. But I'm also curious if there's a time when quads are preferred!

From a quick Google search, it seems like quad meshes might be easier to work with in terms of mesh processing tasks but triangle meshes are more efficient to render.
