I don't think it keeps getting smaller and smaller -- it just smooths the vertices, so you will end up with a sphere, similar in size with the sphere on the right

I noticed during the assignment that any regular 3d polygon will converge to a spherical shape it becomes increasingly subdivided (without extraordinary vertices).
