is there a more formal definition of a boundary ? what if we had complex intertwining surfaces, how would we figure out which edge specifically forms the boundary

kencheng

Do hard corners (e.g. the vertex of a cube) count as boundaries?

sarukkai

Isn't it a cleaner representation to consider there to be faces covering even the boundaries, but simply not make these faces visible when rasterizing the mesh? Then, we wouldn't have to incorporate special edge cases for the mesh boundaries.

I don't quite understand how the boundary edge vertex and surrounding region drawn on the pant-leg corresponds to the half-disk and pacman. Could anyone describe how the half-disk becomes a "pacman" in the polygon mesh?

kim

I think it's sort of like a reverse subdivision? As in, these are the basic polygons that describe a half disk. Using triangles, you could see that they tilt inwards to make the mouth of Pacman. However, wouldn't the pant-leg be a full disk?
